Canyons School District’s Aspiring Educator Scholarship application is open to any qualifying employee or any graduating Canyons School District student who will be enrolled  in a University Educator Preparation program that leads to initial licensure as an elementary, secondary, or special education teacher.

Additional consideration will be given to employees who plan to continue working in Canyons School District in a critical needs area such as, Special Education.

The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, study materials, and/or related school expenses. Scholarship amounts for the 2024-2025 school year are $5,000 for full-time study and $2,500 for part-time study. A minimum of three (3) scholarships will be awarded for the 2024-2025 school year.

The scholarship may be awarded for up to four years, but the recipient must reapply annually and continue to meet all criteria.

Minimum Eligibility:

  1. Current employee who has worked for a minimum of 630 hours within the previous 12 months.
  2. Employee has received an effective (licensed) or a satisfactory (ESP) evaluation within the last two calendar years.
  3. Is, or will be, enrolled in either full-time or part-time study at an accredited University.

Application Process:

  1. Provide proof of enrollment in a Utah public/private, regionally accredited university or college with an elementary, secondary, or special education teacher preparation program.
  2. In a 500-word essay, please tell us about:
    1. Why you want to become a teacher?
    2. What life experiences, both personal and professional, have led you to the teaching profession?
    3. What strengths would you bring to the classroom?
  3. Provide a letter of recommendation from your current supervisor or department head.
  4. Submit online scholarship application and required documents before March 29, 2024.

Additional information:

  1. Scholarships will be funded upon proof of enrollment.
  2. All scholarship awards will be issued in the form of a check to the applicant and the university.
  3. Proof of successful course completion, of the prior semester, must be provided to the CSD Foundation.
  4. Applicant must complete the semester or repay the CSD Foundation any unused funds issued to the school or applicant.

  2. Actively involved in a school program such as, LIA, ECC, TAPS.
  3. Applicant plans to enroll in a University Educator Preparation Program that leads to initial licensure as an elementary, secondary, or special education teacher.
  4. Must have a 2.0 overall GPA or higher while attending high school or 2.0 overall GPA while completing one or more years of university coursework.
