LEGISLATIVE REPORT- Susan Edwards- Public Engagement Coordinator - Legislative Update- This year has been quite diferent that previous years. This year we are not
seeing positive changes, there is more of a philosophical shift. Current Legislature is giving money
to education but is allocating it with rules and confines on how the money can be spent.
Legislature is looking for a diferent path than traditional public education, i.e., charter schools.
Utah has probably the greatest choice for parents in educating their children. - Explanation of WPU (money spent on students) and how it is structured by the Legislature. Money
is being given, but it is given with constraints on how it can be spent. Overall result is that the
WPU per student looks great but is getting smaller as the control of spending is taken away from
Districts.
Time turned to Marci Housman for workshop on Foundation Messaging Workshop.
