CEF Board Meeting
Minutes
August 15, 2024 - Academic achievement has always been important
- Teacher salaries have increased
- One of our tenets is innovation – one thing is keeping your why but changing
your what and how – we have to build on content knowledge but what other
skills are necessary - Need resources and space to do that – will make a huge announcement on
August 20 that will help with this - What motivates our students to engage and be successful – very innovative
- Funding is always an issue – tax rate is lower and belt is tightened which just
makes it harder to fund - Newcomer onboarding – picking up 20 newcomer students per week, impact is
great, heavy load on our teachers and schools, how do we meet their needs
better – major need to help these students - Teen centers – support teens experiencing homelessness or have other needs,
necessities supported at three high schools and three more will be added –
approximately 2,000 homeless in district - Chronic absenteeism still a major issue – poverty, absenteeism and student
anxiety are biggest issues – elementaries down to about 20% and MS down to
about 30% HS still at about 40% – still a struggle – major issue with grades,
failing grades have dipped a little but not much since pandemic - Multilingual not just students in the class – it’s helping parents understand
- Question regarding translation devices that were on innovation grant: We
couldn’t fund what innovation grant asked for last year because translation
device was not what district uses - State and Federal programs works with our refugees and has an approved
translator - Suzanne – keep us in the loop about what we can do to reach out to legislatures
to help with chronic absenteeism – we’ve moved away from compulsory
education, and it has hurt us - Believe it should be the law – decline and apathy happened after change in law –
weight on teachers to accommodate students who miss is difficult - Mila – do we lose UFA money off the top, off state WPU?
Golf Tournament - Sold out – thanks to all who are sponsors at our tournament, we are at $100,000
but we need higher end items for our auction, need them by Sept 12 or earlier - Any volunteers – we can use help early in the morning and a few throughout the
day – just send Denise an email if you can help and next meeting we will confirm - Switched café ownership – everything is more expensive – no treats allowed . . .
so will need to be give under the table 😊 - golfer package will be separate package that everyone will want to have
- $25 to purchase golfer package – with hidden treats
- Title, Gold and Silver all receive golfer package – foursome players will need to
purchase - we have reached out to Pepsi for drinks since Coca-Cola is not allowed on course
- We are potentially looking at other courses for next year
- Lunch – burger or chicken sandwiches
- Jade did tournament there in June and was able to do a dirty soda bar
- Do other courses do the same thing? We are hearing that other courses are
starting to limit food from sponsors - Need auction items
- Will get you a list of what we have
2025 Event – Greg Summerhays, Committee Chair - Met and did research on speakers and locations – in lieu of announcement
coming on 20th we are going to pivot to a more traditional gala and do a
innovation gala the following year - You will see it on the news, and we’ll talk more later
