A Plea to Help Those Most in Need
The Canyons Education Foundation would like to thank our generous business partners and donors for the many offers of support we’ve received as we pull together as a community to slow the spread of COVID-19. The dismissal of schools has been a challenging time for all of us. But Canyons District schools have quickly adapted to supporting the at-home instruction of students while also findings creative ways — using existing resources – to serve free sack lunches to students in need.
At this time, we are recommending that those with offers of help use their time and resources to support area non-profits that cater to families in need or the many local shops, restaurants and displaced workers who have suffered cuts in wages as we heed calls for social distancing. Working from home, canceling events, and self-isolating have been necessary steps for mitigating the coronavirus outbreak, but have disproportionately hurt small businesses and Utah’s travel, entertainment and tourism industry — organizations that, over the years, have so generously supported our schools, teachers, and students.
For this reason, we are not actively soliciting donations. But, we have created a special fund to be used to support Canyons District families who have been hardest hit by the coronavirus outbreak.
Please also consider the many small ways we can all lend a hand to help local businesses stay afloat:
- Shop local, online or in-person
- Purchase gift cards to your favorite sports arena, museum, zoo, aquarium, ski resort, hotel, shop or restaurant
- Tip service workers more than usual
- Order takeout or have a meal delivered from your favorite eatery
